Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which offers videos and blog posts that analyze depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has won awards for her writing, is an activist blogger. She is the founder as well as the executive director for Feminist Frequency, a not-for-profit educational website which explores the portrayals of women within popular stories of culture. Removing gender stereotypes is her main focus. But, she also strives to raise awareness about things like discrimination and harassment of women on the internet. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in Political and Social Thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Attracted to issues related to gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 when she was being a student at the University. The woman with ambitions to start a web-based series that would examine gender representation within video games, and was herself the target of a cyber-bullying campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it bolstered her commitment to be a feminist critic of media. She has won numerous awards due to her notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award awarded media critic, and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in pop-culture storylines.
